For tool boxes, Snap on, I can't fault them, just superb. They seem to be made out of thicker metal than the norm and don't seem to have sharp edges in corners, nor do the edges roll over when one chucks in a heavy tool.
I bought one ages ago, second hand for 500 when I was in the trade, I thought I was being a bit extravagant, that was until the depot was broken into and I learned a technique tool thieves use to get inside locked tool boxes, that technique was simply to push them off the bench where they hit the floor and under the weight of contents, they break open spilling their expensive guts everywhere for the thief to pick up. Not so the Snap On box though, it was pushed off, but it did not break open, nor could the obviously miffed thief get through the front flap lock, the hacksaw he used would not bite into the revolving sleeve shielding the lock. The box was replaced and used as an example of anti thief strength, and my new box, another second hand unit was then via the holes underneath, bolted through the work bench with coach bolts and nuts inside the box.
My box protected approximately £4000 worth of Snap On, Elora and Britool, to include diagnostic equipment and various other pricey trade related electronics and other test equipment.
Stupidly left it with what was to become the ex wife and lost the lot, and so there the end of my trade, as I could not afford to re equip.
But Snap on, as another said, their ratchetry is superb, but not all their stuff is the best, for even they source the best from others around the world. But where Snap On and a few other suppliers win, is the guarantee and service they provide via their operatives that buy in to the name, for a professional who depends on their toolery, a phone call can be the difference between completing a job and not completing it, and there the ability to pay weekly or monthly.
If one is not professional, they do not rely on their tools for their livelihood, then, although they are nice, it does not make economic sense to purchase Snap On, unless one is a names whore.
But their boxes, even for the amateur, I wholeheartedly recommend them, given my experiences, and even though I am no longer in the trade, I will, when I can afford it, start again with a Snap On box. Second hand of course, unless it seems other manufacturers of boxes have taken a leaf out of Snap On's approach to security, design and presentation.
