A little off topic ,

How does RR work?

Does it just work the opposite way, where when you pull the gear cable it pulls the mech down to the lower gears?
dont even know if I have asked the question correctly?

Thats it really...I like it as effectively when you really need it...under pressure going up a hill and changing up...the spring tension is positive to going up the cassette...does that make sense?

I'm enlightened by that, thanks guys.

Did Shimano ever produce a non-RR version of this too?? Sorry HB, for the O/T, I'm just an apprentice trying to learn.....

Since it's been withdrawn, i'll tell you.

Yes and No.
They made a 'Normal' version in the M95x series the M950 came first and is probably is 8 speed counterpart.
They moved to 9 speed and the M953 (as Rapid Rise) replaced this after only one year, loosing the wheel at the back and going back to a better looking (in my opinion) and it's counter part M952 being the 'normal' version.

But the 'no' is because there was not one with the wheel on the back.
Probably explained better here and with pictures
