To SPD or not SPD, that is the question....

Sounds like the cleat tension is a little loose,, or it could be you twist when you jump... and also it depends on the type of pedals., I have found with Egg beater pedals, this can happen more easily ;)

Wind the tension up a notch and see if it makes any difference.. :)

Ok, I seem to be having a totally different problem to other SPD virgins...

Tried them myself recently after a life of flats but found they disengaged when I hopped or jumped, which was a scary experience!
Is this because I'd them set up too lose or is this something you get use to? (maybe I twist my feet as I pull up on the bike?)

Thanks for any help...

Don't wind up the tension, its your jumping technique (I had the same problem many years ago)

The rear end of the bike should not come up by pulling up on the pedals, it comes from the wrists

Notice than Downhillers/BMX/Trials all use flat pedals

Im ma flat pdeal fan myself. Never got on with spd's even after a few trys.

Learning to jump with flat pedals will teach you better technique and control. Rather then relying on your spd's to do so for you.

I've got no problem jumping with flats, been doing that since I was a nipper (and that's going back a few years... )
But I think you use the flats to some extent when jumping, maybe a bit like ollying a skateboard, to give an extra bit of flip/balance or something..... errr...

Anyway, I think it's best to turn up the tension a notch if I continue with the SPDs
