Think I do not like the feel of the rock shox judy's on the prometheus (turning is a bit spongy if you know what I mean) and wondered if I will need a pair of Ti forks and what should I expect to pay for them? Could I get away with a cheaper option or would that be a no-no?

Check these little crackers out:

gag...more Chinese Ti

Will people never learn?

I don’t know if it is Chinese, Russian or USA Ti. It doesn’t matter if the Ti has good quality and are well welded. The price is good enough to complete a sewanee full ti for example or a merlin XLM with full ti components.

Tthe new Santa Cruz came from China and new Yetis are from china or Taiwan, rubbish? a shit? No, things are changing. (Yes, I will not pay 2000 euros for a frame made in china)

They can make other models if you ask them, I think they have they own workshop. You can ask for an special stem (I was looking for it).

Thanks guys for the info, have to say that the forks are a bit over my budget...........

A big bit it over it has to be said, anyone out there have a suggestion for light non-Ti forks?

Madjh,

Each person is entitiled to their own opinion, however, there have been numerous threads not only here but on other mtb forums dealing with the poor material and fabrication of Chi-Ti parts, many ending in catastrophic accidents due to failures.

Knowing the Asian bicycle liason for the US personally, I've got qualified opinions on the materials, prepartation, and fabrication techniques utilized. The insights are quite disturbing. I personally would not put anyone I cared about on one of these products, and that includes those I know through the message boards.

Unfortunately, the blind conviction that if media is saying it is ok, it must be, is a real problem with our industry. A lack of knowledge leads to inferior products as there is no market accountability.

This is why so many Ti products coming from the far east are not made of the alloyed material they are advertised as, Chi-carbon is really fiberglass with one carbon top layer, and store front designers, like the one displayed, flood the market with cheap parts for a few years before closing shop and avoiding the legal tussels.

So, are the Yeti's and Santa Cruz's you mention crap...take a hard look at who is building your bike BEFORE you bomb down a hill at 40mph. The matter of trust in fabrication is up to you...how educated is the consumer?

cheers,

rody

Rody,

What about Xacd ( ? ) ?

they have been in business a long time and do frames and bits for some brands with a good reputation .

They build for Skydecomp and the finish products are quite nice .

Chris,

Xacd is one of the biggest Chi-ti producers...

Here is a thread of Jez's where we discussed them;

and a few pertinent pics..

biggest problem, despite their claims, warranties have been neglected or just not responded to :(

cheers,

rody
