This might a stupid question but can the steerer be replaced with one of these on manitou 1 2 3 comp etc and done easily cheers

Yeah steerer can be replaced. That would be easiest option but not sure if anyone has one in that size. Not particularly common,

No, the steerers of Manitou 1, 2 and three are actually all different! they are not (!) interchangable
