Titanium bikes

i had one briefly..

FAT TI's are simply stunning :D

Bought one few years back for an ex :roll:

Was a TI YO BETTY actually and wished then i could have a medium to make a pair :wink:
 
The only bike I spend any significant money on (ie, the bike I ride the most) has been a ti for a few years now, and i imagine will be in the future. Ive had a few FS and a few steel, but the combo of light ti frame (litespeed in my case), 100-120mm forks and decent discs is as good as it gets... especially if you retro it up a little with some rasta and a ringle seatpost ;)
 
I've owned a few ti frames, Marin Team Ti, Merlin Mountain, three different Kona ti frames, two Moots Rigor Mootis' and even an Airborne Black Widow. The Merlin, Kona KK and Moots are keepers for me (do we all say that? :wink: ) Okay, never say never. :wink:

The ride is as good as steel and a little lighter too, when the surface dulls or gets scratched a quick buff over and polish and it looks as good as new, no corrosion issues either. Painted frames do suffer in comparison and after a couple of seasons of touch up paint are ready for a respray :( .

So, I love my titanium frames but... I love my steel frames too. I've got two steel roadbikes (Gios is a runner and an early 80's Cinelli that's awaiting parts) a couple of Fats, a steel Saracen (the wishbone Kili) and my latest build is an I.F. single speed, perhaps I should have gone ti there but... I just fancied it. :twisted:

now i love ti as much as the next guy :lol:
but got this and built it up as a daily rider, but never really bonded with it :shock:

still hangs there with no purpose, stripped the parts off the very afternoon after i'd seen a 08' ARC frameset in Phil Corleys and thought, that'be nice build (got the forks to go with the white paint) :oops:

Now if the frame hanging up was an IF ti, well that would be different :lol:

But it is about other stuff isn't it? It's more about what you want than what you need. The build quality, the time and care taken to make such an article, etc etc.

WuT, i been reading back through this one and totally agree with you, above a certain threshold all the products work well above the required mark, the rest is the image and the marketing, ie. the aura behind the product.

That's why i prefer Breitling to Tag, and yes i have both, but want a Jaeger Le Coulre <master compressor>

Don't get me started on watches or Land Rovers :lol:
 
Watches, cars and other stuff just don't really do it for me, dunno why. I always end up converting the price of (whatever) into bike parts.
