Do you give tips for haircuts or meals?

I always did then I went to have my hair cut and offered a tip as I was pleased with it and was told in no uncertain terms that they do not accept tips, I felt so embarrassed I have never given a tip since. Was I wrong in this decision?

So do you tip?

Has anyone had bad experiences of giving tips?

I do tip out of habit now to takeaway people or waiters.
Didnt tip the waiter the other day though as he was rather rude. Doubt he will be bothered though as im sure many of them are rolling in tips.

I feel rude if i dont tip for some reason.

Normally round up to a pound or give a pound.

I resent tipping.

You don't tip shop assistants, nor the nurse that gives you the flu Jab.

Teachers don't get tipped, despite looking after your 'Orrible kids.

I don't get it!

Whenever we go to the USA it feels really awkward tipping as over there it is second nature. You tip everybody for anything. Once went to Mexico, had lunch at a local restaurant. Got the bill and paid the exact amount in cash as we happened to have the right amount in change. When the proprietor collected the money he said out loud that the bill was 'plus tip'. It got the message over.

The wages in the US are quite low for waitresses etc and they need the tips, it's part of their wages really. I think it's expected there to tip. In France it's usual to tip, if you don't tip you may be seen as ignorant, if you aren't happy with the service then a very small tip gives that message. I tip in restaurants and pub sometimes.

Opening sequence in Reservoir Dogs says it all for me.

I very very rarely tip.

Think im going to follow that. Its a very valid point.

I was going to say if i was to travel to another country i may check what is the norm tipping wise but then thats doing what is deemed appropriate again isnt it.
