The only problem is that the 6 has 5.5mm between gears,while 7s is 5mm, and 8 is 4.8mm.

While 0.2mm per click difference is accommodated by the floating top jockey wheel in the mech, 0.5mm is a lot and doesn't work after about 4 clicks.

So really they are only usable on 5 or 6 speed systems.

I've got mine on my 7 speed, but they were/are a pain in the arse to set-up.
Will probably replace with some dedicated 7 speed, when I find some.
I just love the look of them though

Does anybody know if the clamps are compatible with 7spd XT II's? I'm looking for some spare clamps for mine and these might do it...

What does everyone reckon?

if the 7 speed xt are the same as the 7 speed dx then they fit but not correctly, i.e they dont clamp down in the right place to allow full lever movement. (the four little pins underneath the lever are not in the same position)

Cheers for that. I have 7 speed XT's and 7 speed DX's and I know that the pin positions are in the same place so I can swap them between their mounts. It's very helpful to know that neither are compatible with the older 6 speed mounts though.
