threading fork steerers .... tools wanted

It would be really handy sometimes to be able to thread steel steerers for retro builds at home, for use with all the old standard headsets and quil stems I have collected over the years.

Therefore does anyone know where I can get dia sets in the correct size to thread 1" , 1,1/8" and 1,1/4" fork steerers?

or if anyone has only old bike shop tools that will do the job.

I have the tools, so can offer the service...PM if needed.
All 3 sizes of cutter with proper handles and guides, not just clearing dies, so new threads cut on ahead steerers, too.

All the best,

Do you make your own guides or buy them, out of interest?

They're just the ones supplied by the tool makers...all bike specific guys: VAR, Hozan and Cobra.

For the OP: Unlike a normal diestock, the bike tool diestocks usually have a dropped section with a selection of steel inserts to match the steerer diameter.
This makes sure the die sits square with the steerer tube when cutting a fresh thread. Usually not necessary (but still preferred) when just extending a thread, as the old thread guides the cutter to some extent.

All the best,

Trying to adjust a headset that's had the threads cut with the wrong type of tool is a sodding nightmare. Both a mate and i had threads cut and headtubes faced (badly) at the same shop. Took months to work out the issue and get it sorted, and new forks.
