Mate was on a stock 1991 Bear valley and had no problems
The Nomad had a chain issue meaning I had to limp on a broken link as the pins were bent and wouldn't go back in, so from Low Wray at Windermere to Kendal was slow going until I could get a new chain, then that wasn't playing ball with the middle ring so granny and top ring were well used for the rest of the ride............ still good fun though.
