Look at the BMA and RCGP recommendations. The biggest risk is inactivity. Getting kids used to habitual exercise and time outdoors is critical to set up healthy lifestyles.
My kids cycled to school from age 4, as a result by 10 they had huge amounts of road sense and were fitter then their contemporaries who were driven to school.
Similarly the medics have shown that cycle commuting
on average is likely to lengthen your life.
