"They're Campag shifters Jim - but not as we know them"

Although I'm no expert, I thought I'd seen all the Campag shifters that were out there, until today !

I was checking over an old Claud Butler (Majestic I think, but resprayed) and saw a set of these

The levers appear to be standard, although the chrome on the clamp was well below par, but the red side plates and wing-nuts; what ?????

I'd love to know the model name and years of manufactue please. Are they common and I've just been ignoring them ?

The red plates look like the ones from the gran turismo shifters. Maybe they're a mash-up of different parts?

It's a 1970's model, but I don't think it was common in this country !?
The rear mech is a thing of Gothic beauty.

By the pressed steel construction it looks like a touring version of the Valentino range.

For the shifter VeloBase shows it as this - with a Record type center bolt, but the wingnuts are more likely to be correct IMHO

The one I saw was missing the large outer plates.
