Any watchers on here?

Read about the epic Isner vs Mahut game on the BBC today, and look forward to the conclusion (hopefully!) a bit later.

Settled down now with a glass of rouge and the Murray match. Good to see our Liz in the Royal Box!

Federer to win the mens, I think. Not sure on the women.

Not many people quick on the uptake then?

I for one, love the Wimbledon fortnight. I've pretty much watched it religiously since 1985/6

Just finished watching the Mahut/Isner saga   What a game. 8)

Incredible game! And Mahut was back out playing doubles later.

Wimbledon has to be one of the best advertisements for elite sport. The atmosphere, spirit and the competitiveness never fails to impress.

That long game was crazy - what useful purpose did it serve having those guys out there for 11 odd hours? Why on earth didn't they have some sort of tie-break after, say, 25:25? It was a spectacle but I wouldn't want it repeated - I don't personally think it showed tennis in a good light.

Agreed. It sums up everything bad in the game. A serve and volley marathon with neither good enough to break the other. Technology has killed the game.
Anyone for retro-tennis, with Dunlop Maxply rackets? I still use a Wilson T2000, just like Jimmy Connors'.

it was over 3 days , so not too bad really .

I love tennis , but with the footie on the box , it is hard to follow it this year .

Martin Amis memorably observed, in the Sampas era, that tennis at Wimbledon was usually rat-a-tat-tat, often rat-a-tat and sometimes simple rat.

Fantastic tournament in general and the last three finals have been unbelievable - I didn't think Federer-Nadal in 2007 could be topped for quality and drama and then there was Federer-Nadal 2008 and Federer-Roddick 2009.

This year looks the most open in years and that isn't because there is a hiatus between eras (Ivanisevic and Hewitt winning in the early 00's) but because the two dominant players of the last few years are just off their very best, for differing reasons, and a few hungry guys are sniffing blood in the water. Should be very interesting.

Oh, and if anyone reading hasn't seen professional tennis live I urge you to do so - the speed, power, skill and sheer athleticism will leave you in awe and simply doesn't come over on TV.

Couldn't agree more, Ed.

Many fond memories of sneaking away from work early to grab ground passes at Wimbledon for a fiver (at 4 or 5pm), soaking up the atmosphere, watching the action on the outer courts and Henman Hill before getting on to the show courts when the seats began to empty.
