Won't hold charge, or generating movement fubar? (ie can you hear it spinning OK, but there's just no charge, or no charge and it doesn't seem to move).

If it's just a charge thing, then a replacement of the capacitor is a fairly simple fix - I've had to do that on all the Kinetics I've got (bar one, so far...).

If it's the generating movement, if you had it serviced, it's 50/50 whether they'd just replace the movement (I suspect most likely) over servicing it and freeing / replacing any stuck components (there's a fair incidence of one of the gears shearing off, or the pin it mounts on snapping...).

it turns just fine...from what ive benn told by a bidder its the capacitor thats died..he runs a website and company that repairs them for 58 quid inc a full service...when you shake the watch it turns for a while then stops...sadly its more then i have so its gotto go

Changing the capacitor is fairly simple - you just need a steady hand and space to do it where you won't lose any screws.

Capacitors are available on ebay and elsewhere, and tend to be around £12. The back of your watch should unscrew with a generic case opener, and you'd need some small / precision screwdrivers (and probably a sharpening stone, to ensure you have a nice sharp edge to a small screwdriver).

After that, it really is pretty easy - you undo the screw holding the oscillating weight and take it off, then there tends to be 3 (admittedly pretty damned small) screws holding a retaining clip, in turn holding in the capacitor.

Last time I looked, there's even somebody selling the small screws on ebay.

Slightly more complex than simply changing a watch battery (but amounts to all you're really doing) but not much more. Trickiest thing is dealing with the tiny screws.

i have elephant fingers and a propesity for destroying even the unbreakable...(plus this way i can get me a new one...the seiko was over ten year old and cost me 80 quid secondhand so i should do ok from all this)...i have my eyes on an automatic divers watch for a while now.....appreciate the helpful advice tho...thanks fella

Nothing cycling related. My family know they've got no chance of finding stuff I want these days.

But a good selection of quality seasonal beers (what a shame I have to drink them while they are in season)...

But to top the cake.... selection of impossible-to-find-in-Denmark chocs sent by Clockworkgazz out of the goodness of his heart. Must now find a way to pass the karma on! When I get out of comfort-blanky-induced-stupor that is.

Thanks mate!
