The tyres of choice!

Having returned to cycling after a good few years away i'm interested to know what the tyre of choice is.

Over the years i've had all sorts of stuff from Farmer John's, Farmer John's cousin, Onza porci's, Panaracer smoke's and a few others.

The most recent tyres i had were about 4 years ago and they were IRC mythos 2's. However, from recent days of searching the net there's loads of new stuff to choose from.

I mainly do XC and trail.

Any suggestions? :?

Lincolnshire bridleway sort of stuff, so pretty flat yet horse hoof bumpy

You would probably get away with any of the Cross Country targeted tires and the light weight ones. Well in the Summer anyway, look at Continental Site for some easy to get hold of and often pretty cheap stuff.
Though how much are you willing to spend on a tire ?

Actually in the dry you'd get away with the semi-slicks in reality.

Though rocky stuff may need more cushion of a wider tire, or in the forest purpose built trails.

If you give your region intended areas of riding the Lincolnshire group may know what suites it well.

A lot seem to like the Schwlbe and Michelin seem to suddenly have a lot more of a mention. No idea other than that, something I don't really follow as for my current style of riding on bridleways, and general under the tress with a few steep yet short hills couple with rods, anything quick rolling with small tread works perfectly fine.

Mud and Snow I've not tried the modern stuff in it.

The reissue onza porcs are bollocks in everything ive put them to,especially snow :x
Best tyres ive owned were by nokian, big chunky buggers cant mind the model.Another i really liked was the michelin savana carbon [folding],got those for a song in the LBS yrs ago, brilliant from day one.I've yet to see any more but id snap them up sharpish if i do 8).short tread but very grippy on everything but mud

? I really love mine?

Modern Maxxis tyres are good, Larsen TT offer good combo of rolling vs traction.

Schwalbe have a huge following, as do Continental

iv'e tried a lot over the years from conti to nokian to schwalbe to dmr's offerings and others new porc included and not inpressed started to crack and offered no grip on roots when wet only good in the dry but every time i ended up going back to schwalbe for me its

1.nobby nic's for mud/winter in 26x2.0
2.racing ralphs for summer in 26.2.25 and 26x2.0 (genesis bigger xtc smaller tyres)
3.fast freds for racing in the summertime in 26x2.0
4.nobby nic for winter racing in 26x1.8

and this sytem really works well for me i hate the price of each tyre but love the properties that each tyre has 8)

I really liked those savana ones,at least thats the name i can remember :? ,anybody heard of them[forward slash ,has a pair to sell ]

Low tread but as supple as an 18yr old Nubian princess 8)

panaracer xc fire pro's are the dogs nads

^^^always my tyre or choice 1.8.^^^

or Panaracer trailrakers if the mud is super bad.

The other thing that is cool abot Paneracer is that their manufacturing process puts them at -1% pollution. (the water they return to the environment is cleaner than when it went into the factory) pretty amasing stuff.
