As I am sure some of you have seen I have recently acquired a Roberts Genesis frame. (in white)
Im now after some advice on how to build it.

Option 1 (my original plan)
Middleburn RS1’s*, Middleburn wheel set (red/faded anno), Pace RC36 Proclass Eddie Irvine edition (red/faded), Vbrakes (due to RC36 forks)

Option 2
Middleburn RS1’s*, Middleburn wheelset (built from a pair of NOS silver hubs I have), Pace RC35*, cantis, M900 sti’s

Option 3 (the wild card)
Middleburn RS1 through to 7’s*, modern disc wheels nicked from my KHS alite team, Hope mono mini’s plundered from the KHS, added rear disc tab to frame & full respray*

*denotes items I don’t already have and will need to find/buy

Either way the frame will be treated to a prof respray.

A mix of any of the above or any other ideas….

So retro/ neo retro or modernisation?

Number 2 I reckon. Roberts require classic parts rather than bling colours!

Option 2!

I really don't understand why people modernise older classics. Customise with appropriate parts, yes, and sure, give it a lick of paint if you have to, but a disc tab? Yeeeuuughhh!

I should say option 2, but I'm gonna throw the cat amongst the pigeons and say 3.

I really like the idea of a quality steel frame with retro geometry (none of this tall front end nonsense) but proper brakes. it would have to be a decent build though. Still plenty of Middleburn, Hope and Pace thrown at it. 8)

The price of a respray, including decals or & a disc tab welded on will be £200+ which for me would immediately rule it out!

Option 4 for me...
Kona P2s/ Pace RC30s and what ever you got in the shed- sorted!

M900 and RC35s IMO. These were great value frames, my mate Simon had one in red/white/blue

I am inclined to agree... god damnit I cant find any where to put the wheels/forks!

I am however still tempted to add a disc tab..I know i know....its wrong...but yet sort of kinky

I dropped off my P21 at colour tech on friday for its re spray and they had 100+ frames waiting to be painted and repaired .
quite a few retro bikes , including a few Roberts dog bollox .

for the price , to paint strip my P21 , frame and forks , and paint in the 3 faded colours , £105 . that is including applying the decals I provided and a clear spray on top .
