The Powder Coating Process...

Kev,

cost is 45 pounds for a single color, 70 pounds for the fancy stuff, not bad for the extra work that goes into insuring that your steel will not be developing rust under the coating.

:shock: Just a shame your 'shop' isn't a 2 minute detour from my route into work Rody.

Seeing as powder coating is a theme at the moment... Is it possible to *clear* powder coat? I wondered how it would look to take a steel frame down to the bare metal and give it a clear coat.

Anyone seen it done or got any examples? Would it just look cr@p?

I dont think its possible to clear powdercoat? but i've seen clear sprayed up steel frames before now, mainly fillet brazed as people are proud of the brazing

right then, next question. any way to stop an alu frame tarnishing once i've paint stripped & polished it? :)

Pantene Shampoo! A pal works in a jewellers and costs it on silver. The silicone in it (which makes your hair so silky :shock: ) also acts as a barrier against tarnishing.

He also uses it on his Hayabusa.

<checks its not april 1st> :lol: are you serious?
maybe a silicone type spray would be even more effective?

...because your bike's worth it! :wink:

Yes I am amazed too! I'm sure that there are a whole load of other things that work also! Car body wax also puts up a nice barrier layer.

Yes, it is possible to use clear powder over a raw frame with this disclaimer;

As with all clears over raw, there is no chemical rust barrier, the frame WILL rust under the finish and will necessitate correction after a year or two.

cheers,

rody
