The perils of taxi driving. Part II

One thing I've always wondered about taxi / cab drivers - I know there's an exemption in law when driving with customers, that allows you to drive without wearing a seatbelt - but why do most I see never wear a seatbelt even if they haven't got any passengers?

Is it habit, or more the extrapolation of a privilege?

hackney (black cab) drivers - no seatbelt when on duty

private hire (me) - seatbelt on when there are no passengers in the car

dems da roools.

It's the private hire / normal cars I'm talking about - I can't recall ever seeing one with a belt on, and I mean when they've got nobody else in the car.

Just struck me as odd - I used to live across the road from a married couple who both drove private hire, and I never once saw them wear a belt, which is what initially made me curious - and as I said, true enough, whenever I see private hire cars, I've never seen one with the driver wearing a belt.

its up to the police and their licensing authority to enforce belt wearing.

Quite.

I had no intentions of enforcement, though - it doesn't irk me, I was just merely curious (as you are a taxi driver) if there was some reason that I'm not getting.

just tell them your going to call the police as its fraud and obtaining property dishonestly...they will soon shut up and leave..
