the optimism of youth, the disapointment of adulthood

Mostly women. Opportunities not taken in my youth because I was being noble. Married now, but still can't figure out their twisted er... logic!?

I thought, when I was a kid, that by the year 2000 I'd have a job designing sports cars and live in a tudor pile with a gravel drive... But it seems I lack the requisite drive and single-mindedness to reach the pinnacle of any profession, because I like to do too many different things. The really successful blokes tend to go home and carry on working after work, if you know what I mean.

I suspect I might be lazy sometimes too, but once work is done, "Doing nothing" for an hour or so seems a valid use of time.

As an old man of 41, my advice to young uns here is not to beat yourself up too much about not hitting the lofty goals you may set in your endeavours. Some people just have a gift for doing something very well which you'll never have. It's like, spending all your life wanting to be 6' 8" when you're 5' 5". It's not going to happen, just do your best with what you have.

I am not 5' 5" btw.

Don't even get me started on Manchester City.

hmmm seems we all have some bagage - I was commenting on the bright future presented to you when you leave school. then the crushing disapointment of adulthood as age comes crashing in with a lot of 'whats all this then?' and promptly shatters the misconceptions
