The one's that got away...

So I saw one of the bikes I that I regret selling the other day. The new owner had it done up in hipster 1x, a front pizza rack, short stem with a brooks saddle and it made me sad because I put that bike through it's paces on tons of trails like it was meant to. I will say that I sold it to buy a 1987 Bianchi Volpe that I have setup with full racks for my summer high elevation mixed road tours I do. So it wasn't like I sold it for beer money, Lol.

Supposedly this bike was previously owned by Ron Kiefel of road bikings Team 7-11 and Team Coors Light fame. Hence the team Coors light color's. I'm not sure on that, but I don't live to far from him and his families old bike shop and have seen him at bike events. So it's plausible.

It's full xtr with xt hubs and ritchey stem, post, bars and bar ends. Non original fork though. The previous to me owner put some longer travel suspension on it and made it ride like a dog.

Anyone else have a one that got away that you miss or regret selling? Post up pics or tell your story.

I like the idea of this. I reluctantly sold one bike I wish I would have kept. The guy gave me crazy money for it so not sad about that, just that it took me over 10 years to get it all right.

Thought I'd seen a thread like this at least once:

Sigh. 94 Kona Humu. Seller had no idea what they were holding, it was festioned with fenders and racks. Popped on here to ask a question about sizing, and when I got back to the ad, it was already gone...
I have learned to shoot first and ask later. He who hesitates, loses

I used to have to sell in order to afford the next one. There's a few I wish I'd kept. Pace RC300, Orange Vitamin T2, 93 Stumpjumper among others. Now I just don't really sell anything, there's bits of bike everywhere and I'm beginning to think 1 in, 1 out might have been the more sensible option after all. Especially as the market seems to have taken a nosedive.

Those are some smokin bikes. But like they say, there's more fish in the sea.

Another question, have you ever bought a dream bike that you always wanted only to find it rides terrible?

Mine was a 94 Trek 970. The bike shop I hung out in as a grom had them and I loved the dark ice grey with purple decals and parts. While not a yo eddie or something expensive, I only wanted a 1994 in those colors. I finally got one and it rides like a bus. Good for getting groceries but terrible on the trails. It's not responsive at all. Just stable, consistent and slow. Now it sits as a frame and fork in the shed after building it up multiple ways to see if it would change my opinion.

I much prefer my DBR WCF Vertex. It's racy and dangerously fast for a old bike. I used to race track and prefer my bikes to react like that.
