Well as the subject of a lot of ribbing by a certain member regarding my living, I believe I only have myself to blame. You dont have to tell everybody everything about yourself if you dont want it used against you as ammunition for cheap puns/ jokes.

Being fairly thick skinned helps but that can also work against you regarding the sensitivity of others. Friendly abrasiveness can be seen as unfriendly and so on.

Good to see everything is more or less back to normal (or as normal as things ever can be  ) on the forum. As others have said these sorts of incidents than blips aare little more nd do not signify the end of retrobike - we've had them before and I'm sure we'll have them again.

Had some good and useful feedback as a result of this incident. Perhaps the main thing myself and the mods ought to take from this is to keep the OT section in check a little more.

One other thing which is less than useful in this case is the bandwagon jumping some users have done. If you think people are bullying or using inappropriate language or whatever tell myself or another mod. Even if I disagree with you I won't judge or hold it against you. The whole "I think someone is being bullied and I have 15 PMs to back me up but I won't tell you who or what it is" are well, less than useful

Where was the fight?

Hardly seems a good idea BB, There's no need too drag up the past really. If it's all fixed, Let the wheels roll on.

I can see where steel is real is coming from. It happens on most forums. Seems to be somewhat geocentric here, probably because a majority are within driving distance of each other, and many have met. I've been active since joining, sharing information on parts and bikes where I can, yet I've never had a question I've asked been answered in the what's my xyz worth thread (the latest being a request for a valuation on a bike for sale I was going to look at), yet when others make similar inquiries, people fall all over themselves to answer. It is what it is. Certainly not worth getting wound up about.

I think that is because somebody sees a name they know and are nosey to see what's for sale. Then start to answer a few a page away etc. But a lot of the times it is luck if anyone happens to be looking that knows.

I see it as the 'here is what I have, somebody give me an offer by PM for it' It's never happened to me (PM) but I know it happens to others, I've had things not valued and one valued but that value was an easy one if somebody knew as it's a common item (but I didn't know it's current value).

I don't look at the 'xyz' thread that often but when I do I'll offer my opinion to any item posted by anyone if I have half an idea what it's worth. If I don't have any idea I don't post. 8)

i think part of the "blips" is a getting to know the people your typing too,
some of us have met up and know a bit more about the personalities
that are behind the keyboard ,that makes it easier to judge where the
bounderies are. the reality is not what you often think when you meet these folk
i'd just like to say everyone i've met in person thru this site have
been top blokes
