This poor idiot doesn't realise that it's called the mountain biking hall of fame because it's the hall of fame for the sport of mountain biking, not the hall of fame for riding bikes off road. If that was the case then surely every cyclist from 100 years ago would be a pioneer of the sport as there were no real tarmac'ed roads then hence off road.
I do love the fact that the hall of fame nomination was written by him and he then uses that as a reference in his own auction. I've got an old school book that I wrote 'I am skill' on it, therefore i must be skill, it says so here on my old school book.
The bloke is a self-deluding, bitter old man who has realised that life has passed him by and he's got nothing to show for it other than a receding hairline and a paedo-beard, so he digs in his garage and finds a 40 year old bike and then compares himself to the wright brothers-genius!
t'll be listed again, and at the same price again, and again, and again....

As ever Pete, just about bang on the money.

So many people were riding off road back then. So anyone who has an old bike sat in grandpa's shed is in for a windfall then?

John Finley Scott was riding a modded Schwinn Varsity off road in the 50's anyway, long before this dude. This guy is just a dreamer.

A paedo beard is a distription of the beard not the owner, a bit like not all Hitler moustaches are worn by Hitler, or Jennifer haircuts are not all worn by Jennifer Anniston, or bugger handles side-burns are not all worn by people affording botters extra purchase in their pursuit of depth.

That said, if you look at his other auctions he is offering free candy and puppies so who knows....

'Distription' or not, please point me to the evidence of any correlation between the wearing of such a beard as featured on this fine fellow and the tendency to which you allude?

Kindly explain what requirement there is to bring such a subject into a totally unrelated thread?

Do you talk like that at dinner with friends?

Many of us sporting such growth are proud parents, this kind of flippant reference to such a terrible thing is rather inappropriate in such company.

I would say the use of the terms in focus lightly in an unrelated conversation is a much more likely signifier of a desensitised approach to the subject.

So perhaps your joke about Paedo-beards is merely a cry for help?

Paedo-talk?

You have surpassed yourself.

Then again, you set a very low bar.

i think people with beards are weird anyway but will look into this more specific nomenclature of hirsute followers with interest, is there a rangers supporter goatee per chance?

you have a beard, dont you....

perhaps highlandsflyer has a sensitivity in this area; I see his point- no need to go that far, and we all know better than to think it's not an insult, and simply the name of a type of beard :P

The seller of this bike is a character, and deserves some ridicule, but not to that extent. Pete is quite, (and by that I mean very), good at tongue lashings- it's a well developed skill. I say he should be a columnist.

On topic: yeah, that bike is not selling.
