The Best V's

i find tree stumps and the ground are brill for bringing me to a halt..either that or the xt v brakes i use on me sannie. :D

Surely the pads and levers with no play are more important than the brake arms. I agree with Max that Deores with good pads work fine, certainly better than XTR with worn/duff pads. Best solution is any old brake with ceramic rims and ceramic-specific pads.

But I'm talking about braking not looks, so maybe I'm missing the point?

Looks help a bit too...if you are a tart like me

These on Ebay, but I think I have left it too late to see if UK shipping is an option http://tinyurl.com/5qdk8e

Go the original XT Vbrakes on my Pace and they're still going strong 12 years later.

Really anchor the bugger, but to be fair I haven't tried much else... I agree the Paul's look tasty.

I've only ever used Shimano Lx and Xt
my Xt with their parallel push rattled an vibrated and caused squealing
The lx are great [the ones without parallel] are the same as any other
,i found though when i used the lx v's with the Xt levers i got better results
This is the '98 stuff im on about,i went hope after that
Dont know about ,avids ,though ive never heard anything bad about them

I like my Pauls. I bought them for the looks, but have got them set up pretty well.

On Ceramic rims, though ....

Yeah - blocks make all the difference - Deore Vs with Kool Stop pads stop my big cromo tandem with gf and full camping gear on no problem...

Avid Ultimate arms. XTR levers.

have XTR's, Ultimates and Arch Supremes and this is the best mixture of the sets I have found.

That said, my cheapo Avid levers on the station runner are a nicer action than the Ultimate levers. But they don't look as nice so that renders them not an option obviously. :D

ditto that, best combo for power & modulation are avid ultimate arms & XTR levers. also best for longevity. neither the arch supreme arms or ultimate levers are anygood long term.
if you're getting more power out of v brakes than new hope hydraulics then you havent set them up properly.
