The American Eagle brand .... tell me more

Bart Brentjens won the first Olympic title on American Eagle...shame on you who cant remember..! He also won Worldcup and worldcup series and Europian Chamionship and National Championship.....on American Eagle

It is hard to find decent pictures of American Eagle.

Initially Rentmeester marketed their MTBs under another brand they carried: 'Concorde'. At some point they came to the conclusion that being successfull with MTBs required another marketing approach. So they issued AE with its own positioning.

1995 American Eagle catalogue now up in Gallery 2 >>

Bart...my hero.. :D

When did American eagle start with the EA series, that is where it went wrong iirc.

The Durango, Lake Tahoe and..... series where very nice.
Most lovely is the Worldcup. the Durango was also available in that colour scheme.

My neighbour 3 houses up the street still rides a Durango with yellow Magura's. He has the matching jersey too. And word has it Bart still has the olympic gold medal winning bike hanging on his garage wall ...

Word also has it this is a german (Storck?) custom frame badged as an Eagle.

Enjoy!!

The team bike (Olympic) indeed was a Storck......
But same as with Kleins, a repainted Storck isnt a real Atlanta...

I have one of the Team Issue bikes :)! American Eagle made indeed a Worldcup version, but it was not as nice at the official team bike. The frame was different. The official team bike never hit the stores, so I am a very happy owner. Unfortunately the paint is in poor condition and it is well used during the race season. It has a great handling and with 10,6kg it is very light for a steel bike with Magura brakes.

Bart rode the steel American Eagle until 1995, I think they started using it at 1992.

I have the bike with the original rigid fork, frame and fork are made of Columbus tubing. I am not sure how much the team rode it without suspension, most pictures of Bart riding it were with WP Rond fork.

I worked at the bikeshop of the teammanager of the American Eagle team for almost 10 years and saw a lot of the bikes. Best AE bikes were the steel ones like Martin already mentioned, they were quite light and the handling was great. The team riders loved them. The alloy bikes were decent bikes, but nothing special. The competition did a better job so sales numbers were dropping.

I can post some pics of my bike if you like.

Cheers!
