I did some thing I hadn't done for many years!? Took a roll of film to be developed. And collected the pictures a few days later.
The camera dealer he recommended was first class. And I bought a normal SLR commination .

So more retro picture taking for me 8)

I'm still using my film SLR!

I wish somebody would tell me where I can get 35mm slides/negs scanned at 4000 dpi. Whitby's in Chichester can't do it, and the SCC in Chichester aren't sure if they can do it. Somebody, somewhere must have a Nikon Coolscan... :(

i use film slrs as well as digital.

i mainly use a Yashica FX103program and a Yashica FXDquartz which are nice to use and take the Contax lenses which are very good. i've recovered both bodies and fitted new light seals and they work like new

Afraid you need to head up to London. All the Pro labs will do you lovely scans on proper scanners. Obviously going to cost, but a world apart from a high street attempt. Dpi is just like all the other numbers in photography...relative. Depends on the resolution and calibre of the hardwear. Had a Coolscan. Admittedly not the best one, but not cheap. Was rubbish. Flogged it.

Have a word with VPS in Goring, they used to be pretty savvy, but serious scans - go to Metro or the other London ones. If it's a one off, I'll do it for you on the Imacons at work. :-)

Thank you so much for this info, Wu-Tangled.

I'm trying to complete a personal project (it's an idea for a little mail-order product I want to sell from home) but not knowing where I can get this neg scan done has been a worry. I found a guy in Cheshire who scans slides and negs, but when I downloaded his sample Jpegs, they were slightly out of focus...

Okay, I'll follow up your suggestions. Thanks again, Wu-Tangled. :)

Postscript: Is this the "Metro" that you were referring to? http://www.metroimaging.co.uk/index.asp

John,

yes, that's Metro. Not going to be the cheapest, but the one the top pros trust the most. Nuff said. Got a bag of theirs on my desk in front of me with Bryan Adams' (everything i do, I do it for you...oh yeah") negs in it. So it's good enough for the rest of us.

Seriously, if it's one or two negs/ trannies, I'll do you a scan here on really good scanners. Just don't have time to do a whole load. And You're in my neck of the woods too so you wouldn't even have to post it. - if you get stuck.

Wu, that would be absolutely superb! :D

Can I ask just one more question?

For the best results, which is the better medium for scanning -- negatives or slides?
