Tell me about your Commute?

Train in the morning with bike because no shower at work and then 14 miles or so on the way back made up partly of quiet estate roads, farm track, huge cycle path and one stretch of dangerous road that I can't seem to avoid.

Keeps the paunch down a bit anyway

Out of hte estate, turn right (not left towards the XC and DH trails) Turn left then head to Peebles, into Peebles and head for Edinburgh, depending on trafic run straight to the bypass or take a left for some more rural rear wheel fun.

Onto the bypass and grind along at 33 for a couple of miles before turning left and dropping the wife off at HQ then turn right towards my work - 27 miles in around 45 mins.

No chance of a bike commute but plenty to get me out of the office at 5 when caddon bank is calling

2.5 miles either way possible almost entirely off road with some sweet single track through the woods and over some waste ground :D

13.5 miles total. About 2 miles to get out of town, then flat A road with no roundabouts or traffic lights for 4.5 miles. I just pick a gear, drop on to the tri bars (on my '90 Tequesta :D ) and sit there at anything from 18 to 24mph depending on wind direction and my energy levels. Then there's a short sharp climb (120ft in 1/3 of a mile) followed by gentle rolling hills the rest of the way to work. Its all A road apart from the first and last 2 miles. Its not a very hilly ride but I almost allways push hard, especially on the 4.5 mile uniterupted section and the sharp climb. I ride 2-3 times a week, usually with a freind who sits in my tow for much of it. I don't mind and I make him sit out front when I'm on a tired day. He usualy sits out the winter so I have a head start on him come the spring. By then end of the summer though he's on form and by sharing the load we can really get a move on (for a couple of mountain bikers on old mtb's with slick tyres anyway, it's all relative :P ) My best time was on my own but with a good tail wind, 39 minutes door to door. Typical is more like 45 minutes.

My bike and all its necassary commuter attachments weights 32lbs and I carry everything in my backpack which weighs 18lbs (thats about the same weight as most of the road bikes I end up racing). Train heavy

Point to point 10 miles each way, but in the summer I take my road bike and go the long way home. Commute in itself is unspectacular but I work shifts so at half 5 in the morning its wonderful, in the afternoon its hectic, at night its exhilarating and at night at the weekends it dangerous(rarely done).

I'm sure theres a good offroad/urban route but I've been threatening this for a couple of years

When the weather is nice I take detours on my way home too. My return journey was 35 miles yesterday with >1000ft of climb. Took in Cheddar Gorge (where the cheese comes from!!! :D ) on my way!!!

Its about 10 miles each way, mainly on old railway paths, so other than the intial mile or so, its traffic free. There is a sting at either end though, the worst being the return journey some 500ft to the front door. Just ordered a cyclecross on btw :D

I turn right out of the door and join the traffic at the lights , go under the bridge and down the road where I turn left at the lights , along the road a bit then right into the carpark . Takes a min or two depending on the lights

I only ride as It's too much hassle playing frogger to get across the road .

19 miles each way 5 days a week through 80% countryside- in all weather / seasons

Use Specialized road bike if in a rush & 1X9 Cotic soul if not so pushed

I did 1800 miles last year in my golf gti - a waste really!
