Feature Bike
Just got back from a retro ride in France where there was a good turnout of old-school Tandems, one or two of which blew us away like we were standing still.
Back in the day a mate had a dawes touring tandem and we could crank it along at a fair clip: 2 engines, one bike's worth of drag and air resistence. All this got me thinking that a vintage racing tandem would be a hoot.
So what do I need to look for? So far, I'm thinking that I need a shortie wheelbase, good steel, and then whatever the light weight components of the era are. Do you need a drag brake (drum at the back) as well as rim brakes? Any good Tandem sites out there? Who were the best makers?
Pics and advice welcomed!
