Televisions-LED

The wife has fallen in love with a Panasonic our friends have. It matches all our steel kitchen shit. Not that it would be anywhere near the kitchen.

I reckon the Samsungs are bargainous and would drop the dime on one no problem, but the Panasonic TX-L47ET60B seems to work ergonomically as well as other things. Sticking with Panasonic appeals too.

Sony in in the lead by a nose :?

The power usage isnt really a factor and the comparisons have yet to include the tube/crt style weve all been using for decades. Id look at the comparison between power usage between all systems

Samsung fell at the first fence.

Do they any good quality panels/monitors?
By the sounds of it you don't need all the TV and Smart part of it as you'll have it hooked up to external equipment.

Just a thought.

What fence would that be?
I went through all this about 3 years ago and the samsung won by a country mile. Even discounting the price.
Currently using it as a 46" monitor for the computer, gaming, bluray, streaming and so on.

Samsung TVs tend to have over-saturated colours and very aggressive luma peaking. They tend to have black lines around the edges; highlights have a black dot in the centre. Superficially it creates immense impact at retail, longer term I find it irritating. It is nigh on impossible to turn this extra processing off with Samsung. Samsung is a league ahead of others with the Smart TV stuff though.

Most broadcasters tend to have Panasonic plasmas, as they are most CRT-like.

As for power consumption, it's related to screen area. CRTs were typically 50-70W...but much smaller than most flat panels these days. Panasonic got its neo-PDP down to below 100W (depending on size). However the latest LED backlights with direct local dimming can be below 50W - I've even seen some 22" running off a USB socket!

Re:

Panny stopped making plasmas. Get them while you still can. Picked up a 54" last Black Friday weekend, and I'm in awe at just how good the picture is. The networking features are terrible, but I have a WD Live box for that.

I think ill eventually want some of the features. You tube for instance :? and i might in the future look to building a new gaming system(PC) It would probably be an idea to keep in mind .
The Sony 654 wins there.
The 653 and the 654 are identical and all the 3 or 4 signifies is the colour with the 3 being black and the 4 silver. They should be identical but hdtv tester reports dirty screen in the corners and the reviewers thought that might be down to a different panel.
As im wanting something to do everything it best i research till im blue in the face.

Re:

We picked up a Samsung 6 Series for a song. Out of the box it does great with HD. Even has 'proper' 3D. Viewing angles are fine and super high contrast, so ideal for bright location. GUI not as sluggish as reviews suggest, and everything just works. 9/10. Half the price of the Sony we were considering too!
