I'm on the other side, in my 30's and I am the tech support for my family and the fall guy in work when the IT guy is busy or away. I'm lucky that I grew up with tech, starting with the BBC micro and an early adopter of the Internet in the mid 90's. I remember being mocked by my piers when I mentioned electronic mail, "what the **** use is that?"

The only way to get comfortable with technology, is to get comfortable with technology - learn by doing. Most peoples' problems are fear that they can't, or don't understand, or will break something.
Some people probably do have some sort of predisposition, and ability - but I'm convinced a big aspect is not being afraid of tinkering with things. Sure, some people tinker and they're incompetent at it - but at least trying, and they do learn something by that.

pretty much the same although i got into computers later but with a lot of passion, so am lent on at work and home to provide tech support in house.
