People will pay for something that willl make them happy. And there had to be two of them wanting it to get the price up there! It was a nice original bike in good condition. I was there on other business , an old boy bought because it reminded him of when he used to ride one!
I took a look at the Team Marin yesterday as I live a couple of miles from the auction room and looking for my first project bike for this new hobby. I am very new to this but to me it looked largely original other than tyres and a QR. Read mech was original XT. But condition was pretty rough - lots of rust spots through paint on frame, several broken spokes so wheels needed a rebuild, headset not smooth, brakes binding so couldn’t test hubs, bars scratched, plastic on thumb shifters badly chewed. So needs a lot of time and some money. I would have loved to have a go at it but not at £300 including fees. So the search continues.People will pay for something that willl make them happy. Glad it went to someone who will appreciate it.
Don’t suppose to got a glimpse of the rear mech?
I don’t think the bike was rough. It certainly needed a couple of spokes and a strip down and clean. I actually thought the frame was in quite good condition for an original 30 year old bike. It was certainly no show pony but very original. I don’t think the £270 including commission was outrageous if you were buying it for yourself.I took a look at the Team Marin yesterday as I live a couple of miles from the auction room and looking for my first project bike for this new hobby.
