Taking a bike on an Easyjet flight, anyone done it?

Has anyone taken a bike by Easyjet?, Did it come out the other side in pieces? What packing did you use?

I have a whole bunch of parts in the UK (thanks to RB) that I am bringing over to Germany. I could box and freight them, but it might work out cheaper to take it on the plane. Can I take a bike box to the airport, or do I need to build a BSO?

Cheers!

I came back from a trip to Switzerland with a frame and forks. In a bike box, flew easyjet. No excess baggage charge, no hassles, no damage to bike. Was very easy.

This was a couple of years ago now though and things may have changed.

I've flown back from Basel in Switzerland twice in the past two years with EasyJet. Cycled out there and flew back both times.
No excess to pay, and you can buy a bike box at the airport for about £12 which fits a complete bike with no dismantling, other than removing pedals and turning your bars 90 degrees.
European airports/railways/roads/everywhere seem to be a lot more bike friendly than in the UK.

But in the current economical climate I wouldn't be surprised if there is now a charge for bikes on EasyJet.

Unfortunately I will be flying from Bristol, and somehow I don't think they sell bike boxes there.

Europe is no much better at handling bikes, here in Germany every train has spaces and the intercity trains have half a carriage just for bikes.

It looks like they only charge £18.50 extra, which in my eyes is OK, it will be cheaper than posting the bits back at any rate.

£18.50 isn't bad at all. I've just been booking flights with easyjet this evening and everything is itemised and optioned now, which is kind of ok if you want to save some money.
Unfortunately I'm not taking a bike this time though.

a couple of years ago BA lost my bike on a flight out to the states :x long story short, eventually it turned and was returned me :) minus around £300 of kit/equipment from the bag! so after pointless calls and emails to them I gave up trying claim for the losses
on the return flight they tried to hit for me £280 excess baggage charge!!! so rather loudly I told the girl on the desk my story and asked do they do COD? as I'll pay at the other end of the flight after all my stuff arrives, in one piece and hasnt been ransacked by your staff! the poor girl at the check in desk waived the charged ushered me through and wished me a good flight
