Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone on here has one of these jobbies. I have given in and ordered one and want to see from folks on here what they think of theirs. I love running but my knees are shot and after getting smashed off my bike last year by a car, I had the majority of my cartilage taken out from one of my knees and the other one sounds and feels like a bag of gravel. I still use a treadmill everyday which I shouldn't but no road running anymore.

I figured if I am going to stick myself on a Turbo Trainer and give up the treadmill I might as well do it properly. I do however have no real idea if this is going to be any good or a waste of time. Just to make it harder to return I bought it from Germany.

Experiences welcome.

Cheers,

Nick :).

I used to do structured turbo sessions with a heart monitor back when I was racing in the 90's. Mine was a magnetic one made by Tacx.
Even the high level intensity threshold workouts where I was on the verge of throwing up couldn't alleviate the mind numbing tedium of turbo training though.

Make sure you get a fan, a towel and some good music/films to keep your mind off the fact you're going nowhere. A copy of 'War and Peace' under the front wheel is also a good idea.

Actually I do have some rather fond memories of turbo training, although my house-mates at uni probably didn't as my sessions made the whole house vibrate.

EDIT: I've just had a look at the one you're getting. Looks a bit more entertaining than staring at magnolia and wood-chip.

I built up a home gym in the garage a couple of years ago after getting to 21.5 stone..... The first thing I did was rig up a modded Xbox with XBMC and a 24" monitor with speakers in there otherwise I would have lost my mind! I still use in there daily.

I am hoping that between the virtual reality racing and the ability to race others online and the media centre I will be entertained enough but time will tell. Just got to build up a pc for in there now and another screen.....

Back up to the top, anyone else used one of these?

Cheers,

Nick :)

Turbo training is boring as but no doubt about it ....you put the time in with structured regular sessions you reap the rewards .... but when you stop it soon goes

I dont know what the serial number is but if its the one you can plug into a computer and do the real life videos and the pre prgrammed routes then yes Ive got one... Love it to bits and is still helping me racing (got 4th overall in vets in the series Idid last year) - what makes it good, amongst other things isthe ability to race against yourself (and others obviously) - currently using the spain and german mtb world cup courses
