t-cut ? or not ?

i have a GT Avalanche from the early 90's ....the white with black stripes one .... my problem is is that no matter what i use to clean it it still looks grubby ...... can i 'T' cut it like a car or is there another way of returning it to its former glossy glory ?

maguires or auto glym paint renovator is very good, t cut can be a bit aggressive in my experience.

T cut should be fine but as said you may want to use a finer polish after to help keep it clean.
Auto glym do a good extra gloss protector which helps prevent mud and stuff sticking to the paint making it easier to rinse.

I use Autoglym paint renovator then Autoglym super resin polish. Works well. I'd have no worries using T-Cut as well, just make sure you polish after.

oh and t cut doesn't like vinyl decals.

I'm T-cutting a Flying Scot at the moment - seems OK but I suspect respray will eventually be order of the day. T-cut at least gets the bike into a presentable condition.

OK need something else - what alternatives are there to T cut which may remove surface rust without absolutely killing the paintwork? Are there any?

Anyway - one side of the frame has come up great with T cut and is reasonably presentable, whilst t'other - well you can see. Surface rust remains quite firmly attached and makes the bike look as if its been hauled from a skip (actually it was a garage).

So, faced with a frame restoration cost of a whisker short of £400 :shock: (that includes decals, lug lining, the works) what else can I try to bring the frame into presentable condition? Anything? Nothing? Wet n dry? Hammerite?

open to opinions.............

T cut removes staining caused by rusty water running on paint.
This gives the impression you've removed some of the rust but really your just cleaning the paint.

Yours looks like the rust has broken through the paint surface and the only way to remove it is to remove the paint and rust back to clean shiny metal.

You could paint the frame yourself using aerosols if you can strip the components and re build it your self.
A blaster could strip paint and rust or if your skint you can do it with sand paper or stripping discs mounted in a drill.

Have you had a quote from a powder coater?.
