hi there,

i just installed my syncros fork and the syncros cattlehead steam together with my chris king headset. now i realized () that the chris king headcap doesn't fit.

does anyone know where i can find the relevant syncros cap for the stem?

cheers

moritz

You may have to have someone here make one for you with a CNC machine. Chainreaction cycles used to sell them but I just looked and apparently they're all sold out.

who is haggis? i already think about replacing the whole thing with a thomson stem. then the problem is solved as well.

They come up on eBay.de from time to time. There are two sorts, plastic and metal.

I've seen half a dozen in the last year on there.

Haggis doesn't have them any more i bought them both then sold the redundant one on ebay
I did noticed the possible prob with that style too ,i looked at redrilling the cap at an angle[i was wanting to use a headlock]CK though i wouldnt try that you'd just wreck,
Another option i thought of ,was to take a 20mm headset spacer ,then grind it at an angle, thin at one end, thick on the other, place it on top of the stem then add the cap, you'll prob need to use a longer bolt, but its the only soultion i can see
the main trouble you will have is how to safely hold the spacer as you grind it ,you could hold it between two pairs of pliers, but i'd make try to get it on the end of a length of dowel [a 4" length of brush handle will do] ,force the spacer onto the end of the handle, you may have to reduce the diameter of the handle to make it fit
When its on securely, press it against a bench grinder ,grinding down the metal and the wood at the same time, use a marker pen to colour in the required angle
you could also use an oil stone to 'fine tune' the angle once the heavy grinding is done

I had the same problem few years ago, and where I lived the closest supply of spacers was 300kms away :D Had to get the bike running so bought a long enough steel pipe, clamped into a vice, cut first the end off at an angle and then cut the pipe. This way I could clamp the pipe hard enough and the part I needed would still be undamaged.

Assuming that you live in a city big enough, you could do the same but with alu pipe and it would probably still be cheaper than buyng a "proper" spacer to grind. :)
