Swap my Kolo Titanium bar/stem combo for seperates....

Well, I should have expected as much. My DBT Ti project has thrown me a few curve balls, and just when I think I'm done, another hurdle to overcome. The brushed stem and bars I have just don't seem to be compatible with each other. The stem is (or so I thought/bought) standard, and them bars are a shimmed ibis affair. No matter how hard I try, the bars will not stay in place. I've tried the coke can shim, I've bought a new metal shim, but none have resolved the issue, so..........

I have a Kolo (British) Ti bar/stem combo in shiny ti. I'd slap this on the build without a seconds thought as it is so light and well engineered, but it is shiny and the frame/build is matt so it just doesn't work (for me), therefore after a swap if anyone is interested. Before anyone suggests making the shint finish matt, I could, but I'd rather not ruin a perfectly good item for the sake of this builds vanity.

Ideally I'd like a stem and bar in individual form, but depending on the stem, I might be happy to swap, or work out some form of cash adjustment (either way) for the right item(s). I wish I had kept my ti race face stem, as at least I could have used it in the interim,, but I sold that for a stupidly low price (based on the one for sale at present), so I've no other option. Anyhow, I digress. Pics below.

Please help me complete this troublesome project, as it is soooooo close now, I could almost ride it. Mind you, if I did, it would probably throw me off at the first oportunity, but I won't let that put me off.

Happy to consider swaps on anything else I have for sale too (or other items I don't as I have plenty more that will be for sale in the next few days), or if needs must, buy a new stem, but hopefully I won't have to part with too much cash, as I need it for my house move.

I'm not promising, just a feeler. . . what seperates do you have? the problem your having with the bars moving, is it possible the stem is fo 26mm road bar spec? if so a coke can is no where near enough to shim a 25.4mm bar to a 26mm stem.

I have just bought a ti roox stem (advert still up now) and have uncut Titec taperwall bars which are like 110g or something sillly

Thanks for the response gtRTSdh. I had considered the road stem side of things but I have no way of measuring accurately enough to know for sure. I bought it as an MTB stem, so was expecting it to fit, but sadly it is not to be. It is not as if the bars rattle around, in fact doinng up the pinch bolt until it clicks (probably a bit tighter than I would like to go normally, but not much), the bar is very snug, it just spins when a bit of pressure is exerted either up or down. A fair tug, not the type of pressure a little finger could achieve.

As for the make, I'm not sure as it is naked, any covering long since departed. Single bolt at both the steerer and bar clamps. May again lean towards road, but my Titec MTB stem only has one bolt at the steerer (or at least I have assumed it is MTB as again I bought it as such).

Bars were sold to be as Ibis and have the remnants (more of a fade) of the logo on one side of the clamp, and 'Titanium 150' on the other. Could potentially be Titec/Bonty bars, as they are shimmed (grey), but can't be sure.

Not sure of the weight of the kolo combo, will try and weigh, but it is very light. The stem I'm having issues with isn't the one in the thread you mention, I've used it instead of the one I planned to, though it was earmarked for my litespeed build hence needing a replacement. The litespeed is a Matt finish too. The bars I bought years ago and have not had a use for until now.

Cheers

Weight of the Kolo combo according to an old set of kitchen scales is about 215g. Darn light considering the ti bars I have are 150g.

that is very light, my bars are 110 from the book, and the roox ti stem that arrived yesterday is 150 on less than accurate scales. I must measure how wide my bars are and have a think.
