Sunrace and Shimano

Found a listing for this Sunrace 555EX rear mech on eBay. It looks to all intents and purposes, like a 600 arabesque rear, right down to similarities in the packaging, except with a less refined finish and different logo. Im just curious really - what was the relationship between sunrace and shimano kit?

Knock off of the Arabesque as mentioned in the above link which is always a good source

Maybe they just sold them the rights and tooling to make copies. Much like what happens with cars - the fiat 124/125?? Became the Lada, Morris oxfords in India etc
