I sympathise - I used to have old m737 cantis on there, and also tried some NOS 1990 XTR cantis, but they were easily outshadowed by the more modern v-brakes from my old Supernormal that I am using now, which are in turn overshadowed by anything hydraulic.

I think that the shift to hydraulic disk brakes was almost the same level of leap forward for mountainbiking as the introduction of front suspension, in terms of your ability to control your ride and trajectory.
