Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Metal Matrix 1:500

One of the first 500 M2 metal matrix frames, then discontinued due to the cost of tooling for working with this material. A piece of history. AND, this frame was ridden in the Words in Vail, 1994 by a member of the British team (came 10th).
Currently set up as a single speed commuter but can be geared. Sale includes:
M2 MM frame 17” Custom paint job (‘don’t bother stealing me, but rather nice in an understated way)
Direct Drive CroMol forks
Deore wheel set, Windhover tyres, Deore levers , Avid vees, USE Ti seat post 350mm, Specialized saddle, Truvativ cranks (almost new) SPD pedals, alloy rack, Truvativ triple butted bars. Chain is good, checked with wear indicator, bar ends (but no grips, wife wants to keep her female specific narrow grips), a spare new in pack Shimano free hub body, the BB cable guide and front mech.
£175 + £22 post via Parcel Force 48, tracked.

I have more photos, please contact me if interested

Can you let me have frame number to confirm age, sorry to say I think its a bit late to be one of the first 500 as they were made in early 90's.

Happy to be proved wrong though

I can't make out the number under the custom paint job, but the bike was purchased new in 1993 (we think, but as this was in a sale, the bike might be 1992). Was certainly sold to us as one of the first batch. Came with a nasty canti hanger that attached to the seat post bolt, looking like an after thought. Thank goodness vees made it redundant.
1" head tube, she used Pace sussy forks from new, the DDrives were only refitted recently for the commuter rebuild (new jpb far too far away for an old lady to commute!!)

I went to the '94 Worlds in Vail. :D Just out of interest which British rider rode a specialized M2 to 10th place in the cross country?

purple fade was a (lovely) 93 option the other was the black FS with future shocks which i have. both mas productions (as it was) made in the us models

It's not one of the first 500 then. Nice frame and good price for full bike but Id adjust your title. Shame, would have bitten your arm off if it was an early one :(
