Stuttering, juddering forks.

There's one aspect everyone has missed...

Under 'heavy braking' it could easily be the tyre tread skipping, depending on the pattern - if the brakes are too powerfull for the bike/riders weight??

I've the same problem with some SIDS, ceramic role rims and xtr v brakes. Pads were not ceramic to start with so changed them to ceramic and it still happens. Sounds like it could be something on the rims. I'll give them a clean and see how this goes.

Just cleaned the rims and the brake cartridges both were glazed over.
This produced no change in judder.
I did notice that the XT V brakes had a fair amount of play in them. They are the original XT type and I believe they had this problem?

The forks will be dismantled over the next couple of weeks to look for play in the bushings. Hopefully this will not be the case.

What do I look for to see if the bushes are worn?
The bike has always been a "spare room queen" indoors on a turbo trainer for winter use.
I only use it outdoors in the summer when my main bike is out of action.
Do you think this is a prime candidate for worn bushes?

cheers once again :)

Before you start pulling it all apart I would suggest you fit some different brakes and see if it cures the problem ?

Could save you a lot of hassle in the long run...
