I've started building my Raleigh up today :) didn't get much done as work kept interupting me

Just as I was getting all excited that I had a front mech that fitted I spotted this

What is it :?: hope your not going to tell me its for some weird fitting front mech that I'll never be able to find :? some sort of chain catching thinginy bob  I must have lead a sheltered life as I've never seen one before  :D

Other than that I think its looking ok :)

Thats what my first thought was, but why would they spec it on this frame ? and is there anything to stop me fitting a standard band on mech ?

Cheers

That takes a front mech so special I have the only one in existence and you will have to send me the frame

But its really as stated above, had one on an old Orange O2 and just used a normal front mech. The E type fitting goes between the BB cup and the BB shell and then has a securing bolt onto the braze on you have pictured.

I can sympathise about the rare front mech thing. On a positive note, don't let anyone try to convince you to change saddles. That looks a very good example of the best saddle ever made!

looks like its a mount for a little wheel/roller which converts the cable pull for the front mech-lets you fit bottom pull with top pull cable routing
think the frame building suppliers ceeway still sell the wheel

It is my absolute favourite saddle :D it came as OE on one of my Konas and its the most comfy saddle ever :)

So can I use a band on mech then as it looks like I can :? :)

That's looking good but you need amber wall tyres and silver rims. Those ones look too 'heavy' for that frame.

Lookin' forward to seeing the finished article. 8)

E-type mechs are no problem, but be careful before you order anything else, as E-types are usually specified for a reason - e.g., that the seat tube has external butting that makes a band fitting unsuitable. Also the fact that the mech band fits between the bb adjuster and the bb shell makes me wonder whether its absence would cause an alignment problem. I don't know.

Needless to say, I must declare an interest as I have here a NOS still-in-bag XT M739E fm that I shall most likely never need and I would be willing to sell if it was ideal for such a nice frame. Please PM me if interested.
