Stuck seatpost

Hi.

Anyone have any idea of how to get a stuck seatpost out without damaging the frame?

The frame is steel btw

Thanks

A while ago, I manage to get a stuck seatpost out the frame, it wasnt easy though, it took 3 of us to do it, we place the seatpost on a heavy duty vice with the frame upside down and put some heat on the seatpost tube frame (it's ok if you wish to have the frame resprayed afterwards) after getting it hot, we dipped in cold water and then back on the vice, 3 of us turn the frame round and finally it moved, it took well over 20 turns to get it out.

You need to put heat on it for the metal to expand and then dipped in cold water for the metal to shrink abit, it's depend how stuck it is I guess, good luck on it.

this question comes up so often now doesn't it!!!

the sheldon brown ways are definately the best, use his great knowledge first before attempting anything else and do it in his order!( see andy's link above) heat and cutting are the last things, but please please please if you get in to any trouble and before the post completely dies/snaps/ bends etc take it to a professional shop and just pay for it to be sorted properly, a good shop won't be beaten by it and should charge you about 30 quid.

i think we have seen to many self attempted removals go wrong and leave people with out their bikes. :(

i'm not questioning your mechanical ability but having been in the trade for 12 years (although i've just left it) it's easier to remove the post if someone hasn't tried to butcher before they bring it to you.

hope that helps
