Stubborn Overspray.

Daffy

Dirt Disciple
Picked up a new bike today and unfortunately it's covered in overspray. Tried car polish, a clay bar and no luck. So dug deep in the car detailing box and found some old scratch remover. Took some shifting but managed to remove it. Only done the rear rim so far.
Here is a before.

Now I know they are salvageable I'll do the spokes with wire wool and Autosol then clean and degrease the hub and cassette. Well pleased.

Long job ahead then I don't like cleaning wheels at the best of times so good luck as show us the progress

Re:

It's a tiresome but worthwhile job.

When I got my Lemond TSX frame, somebody had 'repaired' a scratch on the seat stay by dribbling way too much matt yellow paint of the wrong shade all over the place. I used scratch remover to polish it off and it took days, but eventually I got it all off and got the original paint looking good.

Under all the gloopy mustard were a couple of very minor scratches that don't even go through to the metal, so to say the repair was worse than the damage is an understatement.

It'll be worth all the work in the end.

Would love to see a pic of the TSX. And cheers, I'll keep, tickling away at it.

I've not got around to building it yet, but here's the frame.

If you look at the drive side seat stay, you can see it is a different colour.

And if you look carefully, you can see a run right down the front of the stay and over the dropout.

It all polished off in the end.

I have used "Big Wipes" to good effect in the past for removing over- spray.

good for general dirty jobs too. £6 for a large tub in b &q.

The cloths are slightly "gritty" so don't press hard and let the cloth do the work.

Good luck. .

Ray .
