Stronglight 100lx versus Shimano 105 (1055) crank.

Daffy

Dirt Disciple
I recently bought a Peugeot Altus 531 which came with a Stronglight 100lx crankset. Seller was pretty sure it was original fitment but all the info I can find shows a complete 105 group set.
Only other anomaly is that instead of 105 aero levers it has Wienmann dual levers.
Firstly, how does the Stronglight compare to the 105? And secondly, could the bike have came from the factory like it? I have read that Peugeots of that era had certain idiosyncrasies when it came to spec.

Any input great fully recieved.

I'd take the Stronglight any day, a classic. You can also make a really nice touring double from it with something like 28/44 chainrings.

105 is very ordinary...

Thanks hamster, it's a lovely looking thing. I'll try and find a 105 for the Altus and keep hold of the Stronglight for a future build. Cheers.

Re:

I was idly watching this bike on ebay for a colleague but the pick-up only made it a non-starter. It looks to be in great almost un-ridden condition - the tyres look to be original spec. I’m guessing that a previous owner was a bit nervous of actually riding it hence the switch to safety/suicide levers and the removal of the aero pedals and toe-clips? :?

Nice bike, great paintjob and a bit of a bargain if I remember correctly. :)

I thought the same. It was a 4 hour round trip but was worth it. I've stripped, de greased and cleaned it now just need to reassemble.
Will probably change it back to spec and that'll do.
