wanting to take the colour off the cranks and polish them up,should i be using oven cleaner and a dremel? i saw there was a post about it a while back, but cant find it now,any ideas, guys?

If it's paint, then any paint stripper is fine
If anodizing (a kind of chemical coating) then you need the oven cleaner.

Try a bit of Nitromors first. From what I recall it's paint.

i went down the oven cleaner and Brasso route and i have to say i was impressed, with a bit if elbow grease and care, these beauties are back on form!!
thanks for the advice,im almost scared to put them on the bike now,too shiny!

i used Mr Muscle, that stuff kicks arse! it'll definitely get that off,i reckon, better be careful though, gloves ahoy! and dont breathe the fumes.
coat it and leave for 10 minutes (or keep an eye on it,just in case).

question, how on earth do you manage to get the controls on a Ram Rod?i got one here and im blowed if i can get my XT thumbies and brake levers around that damn bend!!

Sometimes if you twist the mounts around the bar you can get the shifters/brakes on
:? XT tumbies have steel bands, just bend them out ,then back in again.
cant help you with the brake levers though :?
