stripped hanger

by that same theory the left hand side cones on open bearing hubs would always unwind
OK, they don't, but on the other hand you're you saying that the reverse thread on LH pedals and RH BBs is pointless, are you?

Surely if the LH pedal had a clockwise thread it would eventually come loose? And (playing the Devil's advocate here) if there were similar forces on this frame saver, it might come loose as well.

at what point have i said lh threads are pointless :?

lh threads are only found in pedals and bottom brackets due to the forces causing the precession you are implying will happen to an unloaded mech

the lh threads are needed in those areas because of the use ( a great phyical loading in rotation ) mech bolts like wheel nuts and cones arnt subjected to those loads so can happilly rely on just being a simple rh thread

sure things can shake loose but its a different area entirely , mechs dont just fall off and that nut betd sells is no different to any other nut and bolt fastener

as long as the back of the hanger is flush to the face of the nut a dab of loctite and itl be fine

Anthony , just buy the damm bolt , it works fine and wont come loose .
I agree and I would, but it's not for me, it's for somebody who is sceptical, that's why I was playing the Devil's advocate!

My bet is he'll pay more for a new dropout, but we'll see.

Bob Jackson will braze a new hanger onto the existing dropout for £27.50 incidentally.
