stretched crank?

Are there issues with say, older Campy cranks that have been fitted to non Campy BBs ( talking square taper here ) and consequently no longer able to fit to original Campy etc. BB as the taper has been stretched?

Any info welcomed.

The crank only fits about halfway onto the taper compared to normal. I've tried it and mangled the crank about 60 miles later. You might be luckier.

The crank bolt will need to be very tight to stop the thing loosening.

Personally I'd buy the proper bit for the job and fit a Campag BB. They are every bit as good as Shimano ones.

I have to hold my hand up and say that I am running Campag Record style cranks on Shimano cassette BB's (around 115 width) without any perceived problems, even raced on them. I know there is a difference in the taper but in my experience it doesn't seem to make much practical difference in fit.

I was looking for info on this the other day. I have used a shimano crank on a campag BB with no problems (I haven't tried the other way around).

I know the tapers are different, but I think the only difference is the length of taper, so one of them tapers to a narrower point (can't remember which). I think the actual angle of taper is the same.

I was looking for technical drawings of each, but couldn't find any - can anyone help?
