Strange bottom bracket

Thanks. If I replace it with another square tapered unit.. I’m just wondering what I need to look for?
Is it US bottom bracket 51mm?
should be 51,4 (usually sold as 51mm)

Measure to ensure.

You may not need to replace the cups, but its always a good idea. If the bearing sizes are the same in the new unit you'd be fine to keep them though. If you don't want to have to get the hammer out

The BSA threaded adapter is also a good route.

What make is the bike?

Ha yes… 2x4 works for lots of things!
Actually I meant for the lock nuts and adjusters on the outside!
If you buy a whole new unit you will get the whole shebang. Bearings, locknuts and what not. Just have to make sure you get the right spindle length and all.

You might find that the conversion to BSA is more worthwhile as you can easily replace cartridge units

For the one you've got I think it's just a cone spanner in the right size and I'm guessing the other side is slotted?

Then just fit a standard sealed bottom bracket.

Is there a general spindle length to shoot for like 125 to 130 mm?
