Stiff Hope XC rear hub - any thoughts?

I use a set of Hope XC hubs on my main ride and I've noticed over time that the rear hub is getting stiff. It's weird because I know what bad bearings feel like but this is just stiff.

Any ideas what it means and what I need to do to fix it? Also, it's not clear how these hubs come apart.

Dirt in the freehub area probably, mainly the pawls side.

HOPE have the blow out diagrams and the disassembly, if not follow the TiGlide instructions as they are based around the same setup.

things to looks out for:-
dead bearings obviously, in the main hub and the freehub body
already stripped it? did you put the washer spacer back in? is the plastic freehub seal pushed into the hub? (as per this vid, watch it, you'll see what i mean)
pawls and springs knackered? some times if they eventually fail they can fall out of place and get caught up.

The stiffness is too lush and grit/graunch free to be bearings so hopefully it's just grime in the freehub. it's just not obvious how these things come apart.

Seems that a bit of knowledge and a lot of brute force should have these apart.

They can also fly out and get lost under the fridge/heavy workbench/ pile of "stuff". If they do this you can usually assume they were not the problem.
