Sticky stuff

I've just bought a new old frame, which has had self adhesive hose guides attached. I have removed these, but some of the sticky stuff remains. What is a good solvent to remove this with, that won't damage the paint? Cellulose thinners? Meths?

Nail varnish remover, then a polish, jobs a good 'un!!!

Not nail varnish remover- this will lift the lacquer/paint............lighter fuel or meths.
