Does anyone know of any shops selling a stem reducer for a 1.5" stem to take it down to 1 1/8" steerer?
If I could get one I'd keep the X-Lite stem I'm selling and put it on the ss I'm building up for my daughter (as far as Mrs X is concerned  ).

Have some reducer cups at sjs cycles I think ? used for headsets normally but sure they would either fit or you could put a slot in one... I have some myself , but not very deep... use to use them on one of the principias, but went over to devo headset.. I will have a look for you tomorrow and let you know the depth and if you could adapt either one or a series of two... to do the job..

Thanks :D
I was thinking about get a seatpost shim and trimming it down to size.
Yours seems like a good/better solution 8)

I've seen one of those fitted to a Specialized stem. I don't know if it's available separately though. You could always ask at a Specialized dealer.

Bikeman's reducer looks about right for what I need. And I've ordered kit off them before so I know they're some of the good guys :D

i don't know much about 1.5" stuff but i think what you need is a shim with an O.D. of 38.1mm (1.5") and an I.D. of 28.6mm (1 1/8"). those reducer cups should have an O.D. of 49.7mm which is the cup skirt diameter of 1.5" head sets an an I.D. of 34.0mm (1 1/8" cup skirt diameter). thus they won't work even if long enough and modified. that's 5mm wall thickness for the shim - not sure if it would be flexible enough to warrant sufficient clamping force (if that's a word).

1 1/8 ahead stems are plenty and cheap - is it really worth the hassle and in the end still having a half decent set-up?

I was only wondering if there were any reducers out there as I've a X-Lite Steve Peat signature stem (£75 when new, about $150) I'd rather keep than sell if possible. I've quite a few 1 1/8" stems in the tool box, drawers etc but I like this one 8)

I'll see what's laying about in the engineering shop on Monday morning
